Singapore is the epitome of money-career-prestige-obsessed people, which is why, in my opinion, that country managed to be one of the most successful ex-British-colony countries in the world. Clean, highly regulated, excellent shopping and bookstores. Food is great.

However, as in any big cities, sincerity, warmth and genuine smiles are rare. I find the older generation to be more warm and 'humane'. Plastic smiles, negative politeness, subtle arrogance and sheer indifferences are abundant, not to mention extreme competitiveness.

On the bright side, it is a great city-state for few days of vacation, and you might find people to be nice after all. But I always think that Singaporeans are a species of its own. Unique.

Hi, I am from Singapore. What do you want to know about my country? It is a small island nation, but there are varieties to do there. We have one of the best zoo in the world, Singapore Zoological Park, where most of the animals are not in cages but simulated natural surrounding. This is the day zoo. In the night, head to the Night Safari to see the nocturnal animals. This had been said to be one of the best night zoo in the world too.
Birds fascinate you, head for the Jurong Bird Park. This had been recently renovated to include a few walk-through aviaries where you get to walk among variety of birds. I had like the Birds of Paradise segment where you get to see the rare birds close up, normally invisible in the wild!
Sentosa had been undergoing many renovations and improvements to make it worh the visit. There are them parks like Surrender Chamber, Butterfly Garden and the popular Underwater World to look at one of the largest marine aquarium in the region. This place can last you a full day to explore.
Singapore is also well known as a cross road for cuisine. You can sample many varied international fares in the numerous restaurants here. eating is one of the locals favourite pastime! If you care, try the local fare. The chilly crab had been the perenial favourite for visitors, but the local preference is for the black pepper version. Seafood abound and is not too pricey. We locals will definitely help if approached.
Ah, best thing is that majority of us speak English, and quite good too. So there should be no language problem during your stay, if that is your intention.
There are more, multi-cultures, multi-religions, all on a small but packed island. :)

i have been to Singapore three times and i love that country the people are were nice and almost everyone speaks English so a tourist does not have lot of problem. What i liked the most on my trip is their famous National Park called SANTOSA if you visit Singapore you should really go to SANTOSA its one of the most beautifully places i have ever seen and another thing their Safari is better than many zoos is the US i have never seen such a "natural" zoo where there are all sorts of animals.

nice to visit and shop. Safe, clean, and highly regulated, but way too small to live in. In about a month you will run out of new places to go.
